A little cosy place down Henley beach road is where we are for this weeks writeup. I ordered a ristretto and a cappuccino.
Good to see a little coffee art in my cappuccino instead of the traditional presentation. Taste of the froth, well ‘washed-up’ is how I would describe it. Second hand, used, I don’t know what happened too the milk but it wasn’t enjoyable at all. It was as though the milk had its life sucked from it and I had the dreggs if you will, it just tasted awfull. The flip side to this is that this taste filtered through too the coffee which overall ended up being a drink that was severely ruined by the milk. Had I not had this for the review, I wouldn’t of drank it. On the bottom of the cup was some cocoa powder, it got my attention as it seemed a bit more than usual and influenced the taste towards the end. Cafe’s have to be careful about tinkering with a cappuccino, placing to much cocoa or using it in the wrong place (ie – adding it in the bottom of the cup before anything else or on top of the shot) can make the drink unbalanced or even worse change it into a mocha. Variations can be done, but it still must be a cappuccino.
The ristretto as below faired much better than the cappuccino with encouraging first looks and what I got was reasonable viscosity, medium body and a lingering caramel after taste, a bit more of the drink would of been good but overall it was pretty good. Its unusual too get this drink turning out much better than the cappuccino and I was happy too end off on a good note.
There was also a latte done for my table of which the drinker pointed out that it was ‘nice’, I had a little taste and I wished I had this as my milk based coffee. It seems lack of consistency showed itself today, how important it is to get those coffee’s made the same way everytime is crucial.
