This business roasts their own beans so they have complete control over the quality, how does this translate into their own in-house made coffee’s?
I ordered a cappuccino and a ristretto.
Visual appearance of the cappuccino is traditional and the coffee beans that was used in my drink could also fall under this category and by that I mean a full bodied coffee, a dark roast. The foam taste, well that was heavily dominated by a taste of cocoa, earthy, chocolate. I couldn’t get any creaminess or silky micro milk to this part of the coffee and it wasn’t until I was about a quarter of the way down into the coffee that the strong tastes from the cocoa foam had finally left my mouth. (in other words it took a few slurps of the coffee to clear out the foam taste) Happy that-that was over and finally i’m drinking the coffee unimpeded to which it has a dark colour with a taste that is full bodied without hitting me like a sledge hammer, its much smoother than some dark roasts I have had at other cafe’s and more enjoyable.
The Ristretto (as below) lacked good mouth feel however the bean taste was good with nuances of the profile coming through which was a refreshing change to the occasional dark roast I have that is mostly a one way street with no side roads. There was an unusual part to this coffee in that there was a runny liquid at the bottom of the cup that seemed to make itself known that it was separate from the crema and this came across as I slugged it back. I will make comparisons to other ristretto’s I have had and this was unique to the coffee I had today. Usually this type of coffee has an emulsified mouth feel but this one had clear separation and there was no prolonged sitting time before I drank it.
I was told that I should of asked for permission to take photo’s of the coffee I had which I find a bit strange. I would also like to point out that in most cases cafe owners do not know why I am there until the end (if at all), which is the way I like to run this blog. I’m visiting cafe’s to get the same coffee as everyone else, not one that may of been given more attention than normal, doing it this way gives me a more accurate assessment of their coffee and I hope this answers the owners’ question from Simply Coffee as to why I never told them intially why I was there.
Today’s coffee I must give acknowledgement for the coffee bean profile, this was the highlight of today’s drinks and had shown to me that it was a batch of beans that was well roasted. They do have plenty of different beans for sale so if buying for the home make sure you have the ‘roasted-on’ date. One last thing the Tanzanian beans I had aren’t the only beans they use for in-house coffee’s, should you want to try a lighter roast, just ask.

Simply Coffee is just down the road from my new office. I’d been trying to find a place that does good coffee, but after a quick Google and look at their website I got the impression that they roasted beans and sold coffee equipment. I wasn’t quite sure they actually did coffee.
I get my beans there often (when not getting from Decaf Sucks). Love their coffee, that they roast on site, the knowledge of the people working there, and the helpfulness. So glad you liked them.
PS no wifi, no food, no cakes. Simply coffee.
