Each time I head out on this coffee journey I’m hopeful of 2 well made coffee’s, one ristretto and one cappuccino, seldom does this happen and when it does boy that makes me happy as it shows know-how, passion and skill on behalf of the barista. Today I headed too UR caffe in Melbourne Street and as always i’m hopeful of good coffee.
I ordered my 2 regular coffee’s and the cappuccino came first and you can see below it has good presentation with coffee art and the chocolate powder ingrained between the layers of milk and coffee. Ok, so after admiring the presentation I carefully and thoughtfully taste the froth and the barista probably couldn’t make it much better than what was in my cup. Tightly packed microfoam, great mouth feel and silky. Down to the coffee and at this stage it has been given a head start due to the well textured milk, remembering that this does filter through to the coffee and greatly impacts the taste. This had a light-ish to medium body and was a coffee that was very well made from start too finish with good symmetry between the milk and coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed.
The presentation of the ristretto (as below) had me thinking this looks good, it seems to have enough in the cup together with the desired colour and after slugging it back I’m getting an intense, syrupy, carbonated sparkly sensation, and you know what, all-in-all, i’ve just had the characteristics of a well made ristretto in my cup, it was the way it should be.
I was disappointed at the barista’s secretive response to beans they use, this hasn’t happened before in my previous 34 weeks and they simply refused to give details about the blend / roaster, however, that is their choice.
I don’t do these reviews too simply write nice things, I do look for faults as its about being honest and too analyse what I had, today’s coffee was made by a barsita whom clearly knows their place and that’s behind the coffee machine. Well done.

not bad art…..presentation lacks a little….bit sloppy with the choc powder all over the rim of the cup and handle, same with ristretto, coffee slopped on the rim of cup from the pour, wouldnt take much to clean up the cap after the choc is placed on the espresso shot …. wipe the rim ….quick dab with a clean chux etc….5 seconds work?
at least you enjoyed the coffee….
So pleased that you like it, it’s becoming a real beacon in Melbourne St. One of my fav coffee places, and the food is innovative and great too, with a Thai twist.
Had one of their coffees the other day and was impressed, though still very secretive about the bean supplier. Being a little nosy, I recall having a coffee that tasted the same or very similar. So my original guess on who the supplier might be could be correct, but I’m getting confirmation today. Overall, the coffee is good, and wouldn’t make a huge difference on who the supplier was.
