My cappuccino came first and the presentation is average, with what I can see that is maybe bitterness in that dark swirl on the left hand side. I tuck into the froth avoiding the chocolate sprinkle and the part that appears to be bitter leaving a little bit too taste that is a-la-natural textured froth. It had some good elements in this bit including nice creaminess and well defined texture. The darkish bitter swirl was indeed bitter but soon enough I know the coffee will swallow this up. I’ve had a few coffee’s with bitter tops on them before, the bitterness always seems to vanish when i’m drinking the coffee and this cup was no different. Smooth coffee is how I would describe my cup with a reasonable solid backing to keep it in check.
My ristretto as below appeared to be a tiny amount on presentation, and after slugging it back I have too say it was too little and it came through with strange tastes and strikingly stale unlike my cappuccino. I suspect the cup may of been ‘old’ and sitting around for sometime without any use, then again it may of just been the way it was made. Either way, my ‘coffee dirty’, thin and stale ristretto was far off the mark.
The bitterness in my cappuccino top usually isn’t something that a cafe will continually serve up, it’s like a coffee typo, it happens but it can be a put-off for customers. My poor ristretto, it lacked knowledge love and affection… and it showed.
