Cappuccino Cost - $3.30

Ristretto Cost - $3.00

This chocolate cafe on Unley Road has mentioned on twitter that it also does coffee, so what a great excuse too combine my love of coffee and to have some good chocolate as well. I ordered a cappuccino and a ristretto.

My cappuccino arrives (pic below) from pleasant, friendly staff, and as you can see it doesn’t have good presentation. At first look the chocolate powder certaintly appears to be  better quality than the standard stuff most places give on cappuccino’s, but now, how does the froth taste? This was interesting as it lacked any qualities that well textured milk has, yet it bombarded me with tastes such as earthy, light bitterness, caramel …..orange and of course the good quality chocolate powder which thankfully had no gritty sugar crystals!  One could could argue however that these tastes should remain relatively separate from the froth and mostly come out in the coffee, but it sure as hell got my attention.

Now that I had finished the froth, I was onto the coffee and with the colour looking good I delved into a coffee that was full bodied and had cocoa and caramel tastes – a type of coffee bean profile you would expect in a chocolate cafe and one that I enjoyed.

My ristretto as below was a bit to light in presentation and as a result the rest was probably as expected in that the coffee was to ‘thin’ which greatly impacts the mouth feel, texture and taste leaving a ristretto that fell short on expectation.

Without a doubt the coffee in the cappuccino was very good, together with improvement on a few other elements will see this place strive to the high quality equivalent of the chocolates it makes.

  1. Woohoo, a new chocolate place for me to try! Thanks! I used to be a big Bracegirdles fan, but then they got cool and now the last 5 or so times I called around there has been no spare tables and a line out the door.

Coffee Barun’s roasts are supposed to be awesome as well.

  2. I can assure you their coffee’s come out looking much better than that usually!
Maybe you had someone who was training? It’s definitely a place you should try again.
I have had amazing ristretto’s from there before, and the chocolates/cakes are to die for!

  3. Hey Bobby – I have finally tracked you down – we have similar passions and similar ideas – and once I have been mistaken for you…but great blog, and I will be back weekly to check on your coffee adventures and see where I should go next.

  4. Hello Miss Kimbers, I didnt try the hot chocolate, but saw some going out… they looked nice. Funny you should mention Cocolat, i’ve just added this weeks post which is about Cocolat.

Got something to say?
