Cappucino and Ristretto Cost $3.00ea

First time I have been here and I reckon this place is the best dressed coffee place I have seen in Adelaide – All sorts of coffee equipment/stuff/beans greeting you as you walk in. Quite impressed. Well i’m here for coffee so lets order, Cappuccino and Ristretto please.

Presentation of the cappuccino was quite ordinary, not showing any flair or attention to detail. On the home page of their website, they have a red cup (same as mine) with some latte art, was that only done for promo purposes and not something that is done for the customer? Would of been good to get one of those.  The froth in my cappuccino was way to little, a very thin layer. Technically its not really a cappuccino, but a flat white.

Down to the coffee in my cappuccino as pictured below and its to milky. The first taste I get is a dominating creamy/milky taste, which I liked,  however the coffee didnt come through to balance it out so unfortunatley this drink was spoiled due to diluted/weak coffee. I was suprised to hear they use skim milk as it (the milk) was the over-riding taste throughout the entire drink. Sadly, they missed the mark on the coffee strength.

The ristetto (as below) peaks out as an earthy, spiced drink which I liked. I felt the beans were of good quality however the drink was let down by the quality of the shot. I will say that this ristretto they gave me was pretty typical as to what many places serve. A thin/pale crema and thin drink, a vast difference between that of one that has is dense, thick, intense and has a volcanic like crema – these are the ones that really rock and are seldom given out.

A latte was also ordered for our table (not for me though), which I am told was very good, the colour of the coffee appeared much better than mine and I also noticed it had more froth than my Cappuccino. Pity.

I know this business can produce a good end result, mine just wasn’t in that league today.

  1. Pura skim milk, was that the only milk they had there?? Does that seem strange they are only using skim milk?

  2. I thought it was a bit unusual when they told me ‘skim milk’ is what they use.(after all its a full cream drink I asked for) Perhaps its just easier when ordering from the supplier? I don’t know what the reason is Matt.

Got something to say?
