Cappuccino at Cafe Komodo
Prospect road in Prospect is where I was for a coffee on a beautiful Adelaide Sunday morning, jee I love this time of year. I’m at the front desk and ask for a Ristretto, ‘whats that‘ was the reply. Oh dear I thought, thats not a good start. I came here because of recommendations and before I even sit down i’m worried. Is that like a short bitter coffee she says, OMG, is that the barista’s perception of short coffee’s, bitter? The barista did suggest a short black which i declined for now and just ordered a cappuccino.
The cappuccino rocks up and has good presentation. Great silky microfoam but dissappointment when I get to the coffee – its watery. What can i say about a watery coffee? Not much i’m afraid.
Short Black at Cafe Komodo
During my half hour or so here i’m pulled into line by the owner/manager for not smiling. Go figure. A frumpy sunday morning look, guess thats what I had. I did manage to squeeze out a smile or 2 even though it was still a bit early for that.
My short black that I ordered was fruity, with ashy, smokey aftertaste, crema is a bit pale though. Having had the earlier comment from the barista about bitter short coffee’s it was cause for concern and sure I chose to order this short black after her comment but it turned out to be ok, not bitter and with some character as mentioned above which I seldom find in coffee’s of this nature in Adelaide.

There is a place called murranti cakes next to Komodo that serves rio coffee not open on Sundays sadly thou check it out.
Matt i was told about Murranti and had intentions of also visiting them as well but as you say they arent open on Sunday’s. Perhaps i’ll pay a visit sometime.
I love their atmosphere and the lovely staff — that sort of makes up for their coffee (somewhat).
Its “Muratti”, and yes they’re fabulous.
