Coffee Barun

Week 6 of 52

Milk – Tweedvale

Double Ristretto Cost – $3.00

Beans - Yirgacheffe

Ristretto was half the order i was looking forward to not to say i wasnt looking forward to my cappuccino but a top notch Ristretto can be described as h-e-a-v-e-n.

Having had a dreadfull ristretto at another establishment the day before, I was hopeful to be put right again at Coffee Barun. My drink arrives and I swirled it a bit… aah, I was getting exicted, this is looking good, I was feeling like a kid with this little cup of great looking liquid gold. I drank my ristretto and it was perfect, OMG this hit the spot. Great body, unlike most folks whom attend my gym, mellow and smooth….  chocolate…bit spicy. To make this type of drink to requires a lot of attention to detail throughout the whole process and the barista/Coffee Barun nailed it with this one. Hours later I was still in awe of this coffee i had.

Below is the Rancilio z9 Lever from 1974 which Coffee Barun use to make such coffees as the Ristretto I had.

My ristretto below…

Like thick liquid honeycomb, this was a absolute cracker i had at Coffee Barun.

The new premises that Coffee Barun is now using is very spacious, most welcomed. If your interested in buying beans for yourself, dont go past this place. A excellent variety of single origin beans which they roast in-house (and you can see that in action) with very knowledgeable staff will ensure you walk away with the beans that will should appeal to your taste buds and answer any coffee related query. Growing popularity for siphon and cold drip coffee is also on offer. The cold drip is incredible, if you didint know anybetter you would think it was a scotch liqueur you were drinking.

A good ristretto can seperate the men from the boys – where does your local coffee shop fit in?

  1. Sounds likes you liked the rIstretto!!
What is the difference between a double ristretto and a short black?

  2. Wow, this review almost looks paid for. Interesting notes about that ristretto considering if that’s what hit your table it looks grossly tight, even for a ristretto!

A terrible looking shot that looks as if it’s killed all the greatness that may have existed in the bean.

  3. Hi Kain,

Yes I have been offered free coffee’s, which i have always declined, there is no coffee shop that pays me anything whatsoever, i wouldnt let it happen. I’m not doing this to make friends or be buddies with anyone, simply looking for a good cup. You can analyze any photo’s or anything i say but in the end i taste what i taste and write about it. Thats it.

  4. i would have to say after having the privilege of meeting bobby today im pretty convinced he wouldnt take cash for a review and I have had the pleasure of a few coffee barun coffees and they have never been anything less than perfection.

Got something to say?
